Schofield is cleverly invited to attend an early morning
exercise in the Nevada Desert. The added incentive being able to fly
in the backseat of a two seater AV-8B Harrier on a simulated air to
air combat mission.
Shortly after take off the pilot has two target drones in his sights.
He locks on and fires two missiles successively, one per drone. The
missiles rocket away towards their targets.
Unbelievably five seconds later the first missile suddenly breaks off
into a sharp turn and heads straight towards the Harrier.
The pilot has two choices, evade or eject. Either way Schofield is in
trouble. The missile is homing in on a beacon located inside the cockpit
of the Harrier. Someone wired a remotely activated tracking device into
the missile, overriding the original guidance system at the flick of
a switch.
Moments later the second missile is also turning around homing in on
a separate beacon sewn into Schofields flight suit. If by some chance
Schofield survives the initial blast and ejects he will be at the mercy
of the second missile as he dangles beneath his parachute.
