To lure Schofield I kidnap Gant, securing her to a nuclear explosive in the central chamber of a submarine, which is slowly filling with water around her. The timer is set for five minutes. Schofield enters the sub, seeing both Gant struggling desperately against the rising water, and the detonation countdown on video screens!

Progressing along the submarine towards Gant, Schofield must lock the hatch doors behind him as water floods into each chamber he enters. Meanwhile, the timer is ticking and Gant’s chamber is filling up.

As Schofield reaches Gant, the timer abruptly ceases ticking and the water stops rising. They are together, up to their necks in water – confident they have survived. Suddenly, the sub lurches, beginning a slow descent to the ocean floor three kilometres below. It is then that Schofield realises their demise will come, not by drowning, but by the submarine being crushed by the water pressure as they descend! His last exchange with Gant, who is unaware of the encroaching horror, is “ Love you Elizabeth, always have... “ and a lingering kiss. The last sounds heard are the sickening crunches and groans of the submarine’s structure beginning to crumple inwards.
