i
there everyone,
First of all, a huge thank you to all of those very creative souls who
entered the competition -- I honestly didn't know just how much you all
wanted to kill my lead character! I was amazed at the inventiveness and
creative genius behind the entries -- while most succeeded in killing
Schofield, others did not, while others still used relatives of people
Schofield has killed in my books to get back at him, which I thought a
nice touch.
But now, the day of judgement has arrived. I have viewed the ten finalists
and have made my decision.
1st Place: The winner is Michael Graves, from Germany, whose "assassination
of Schofield in a back-alley with a Gant impostor" entry featured
really great writing skills. The tension and dark atmosphere of his prose
was top notch. I have since discovered that Michael lives in Germany.
Good on you, Michael!
2nd Place: Almost snatching the top prize with some debonair writing was
Wes Gardner, from Australia, (whose idea of dropping an endangered white
rhino -- equipped with directional aerial fins -- from a plane onto Schofield
was fun, silly, and was the only finalist to capture my love of big animals
that kill people).
And so, to the winner, the spoils: a signed copy of Scarecrow
direct from my author stash, plus keyrings. To all the other finalists:
a set of exclusive, limited-edition Matthew Reilly keyrings! (Which are
now collectors items, since we've run out of stock!)
Thanks for all your hard work. And I hope you enjoy my own effort at killing
Scarecrow... in the book Scarecrow.
Very best wishes,
Matthew Reilly
